Leucojum autumnale, a Summer Snowflake

Leucojum autumnale
 Snowflake bulb
If you are in Spain in October driving from La Linea de la Conception on the road leading along the seashore towards the village of El Campamento you are likely to encounter myriads of this dainty looking bulb in flower. It is a surprise to find such a delicate looking thing in flower here in early January. I bought a small pot of it from a stall at Camden Produce Market and though the leaves are fine and grass like, it is quite a hardy little plant. The foliage starts to die down here in November and just when you thought you had lost it, out come the flowers.
