Justicia aurea

Justicia aurea
This Justicia is slightly more robust that the previously mentioned J carnea .It is taller with broader more tropical leaves to almost 30cm in length and the flowers are a magnificent clear golden yellow. It is native to Mexico and Central America. Given a semi shaded position away from damaging winds it will thrive in average to moist garden soil.
2017 update: It is a bit straggly in the garden but the winter flowers are most welcome. I have plants available from time to time.

  1. My favourite Justicia ! Very striking is the contrast between the golden yellow flowers and the almost black sheets from which the flowers emerge. A great plant with lush foliage for the tropical and subtropical garden !

    1. It needs to be planted as a big group as single plants look a bit lost. Imagine the impact of twenty growing together.
