Spartium junceum, Spanish Broom

Spartium junceum
 Spanish Broom

The rich yellow flowers of this leafless shrub are hard to miss and make a wonderful display for many weeks in October and November. The flowers are sweetly perfumed which is an added bonus. Sadly this shrub is no longer available commercially and has been added to the weed list of some districts mainly those with a Mediterranean climate . It is a close relative of the prickly Gorse (Ulex europaeus) which is a serious weed of temperate Australia.

  1. A brilliant yellow color; does this 'shrub' bloom all summer? It reminds me of Forsythia 'Courtasol', but with a fuller flower.
